Overview Variety is searching for a Los Angeles-based Associate Web Editor, Nights and Weekend who can write and edit stories very quickly on extremely tight deadlines. This position would write and edit on all topics that Variety covers, and be able to stop quickly in order to pick up any breaking urgent news. They must be able to self-publish clean copy and be familiar with basic copy editing. This job is all about speed, precision and great news instincts. The job also includes assisting in the maintenance of the website, assembling newsletters, artwork and social media posts.
Work Schedule Monday- Wednesday 2pm-10pm PT, Saturday & Sunday 8am-5pm PT.
Qualifications Experience writing and editing short-form pieces on a tight deadline
Understanding of the entertainment media landscape
Experience using WordPress or a CMS equivalent, as well as SocialFlow and social media platforms. SEO knowledge a plus
Background in entertainment media a plus. Understanding of and obsession with the entertainment industry a must
Responsibilities Write and edit stories across Variety’s topics with speed and accuracy
Self-publish clean copy and perform basic copy editing
Monitor breaking news and adjust coverage as needed
Assist in website maintenance, newsletters, artwork and social media posts
Compensation and Employment Details A good faith estimate of the salary range is $70,500 upon hire. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors).
