ACLU‑NJ Digital Communications Intern
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU‑NJ) seeks a highly motivated undergraduate student for a summer internship in our communications department. It is a full‑time, ten‑week internship from June through August. Interns will work hybrid: Tuesdays and Wednesdays in our Newark office.
In this role you will contribute to broad civil‑rights and liberties projects by creating digital content that educates the public on ACLU‑NJ’s key priorities. Tasks include developing social copy, email blasts, editorial, multimedia, and web content, and analyzing data to recommend improvements to digital campaigns. The internship also offers professional development through presentations and Q & A sessions with attorneys and partners.
The successful applicant will earn $21 per hour for 30 hours per week and will be expected to work in the office two days per week. External funding is not considered.
Responsibilities
Create and edit social media posts across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and YouTube.
Design graphics using Canva and Adobe Express.
Draft email blasts, editorial stories, multimedia, and web content.
Analyze reporting data and recommend changes based on key performance indicators.
Collaborate across departments on digital communications strategies.
Qualifications
Strong oral, written, and editing skills.
Familiarity with online platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and YouTube, and graphic design software such as Canva and Adobe Express.
Experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or other data management software.
Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
Interest in graphic design and video editing (optional).
Commitment to racial and social justice, civil liberties, and civil rights.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work inclusively across lines of difference.
