Role Overview Principal Technical Writer responsible for authoring and editing technical documents for state‑of‑the‑art Automatic Test Equipment, Targeting Systems and Countermeasures equipment used on fixed and rotary‑wing aircraft. The role supports maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, theory of operation, block diagrams, wiring diagrams and more.
Responsibilities Author and edit Flight Manuals, Job Guides, General Equipment/Systems Manuals, Fault Isolation, Fault Reporting, and Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB).
Create Theory of Operation, Maintenance, Operation, Troubleshooting sections, Block Diagrams, and Wiring Diagrams.
Gather subject matter expertise by interviewing product developers, observing production, and studying technical specifications, blueprints and trade journals.
Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
Conduct quality review of peer documentation.
Present writing samples and a short 3–5 slide presentation on a chosen topic.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience; OR a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years; OR Ph.D. with 1 year of relevant experience.
Demonstrated competency in desktop publishing applications: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and at least one of FrameMaker or Arbortext Editor.
Experience with Military Standards (Air Force, Navy, Army).
Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Suite.
Knowledge of interpreting simple schematic circuits, proofing, and editing technical documents.
U.S. citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications Ability to interpret and describe complex schematic circuits.
Experience with XML/SGML and basic graphics packages such as IsoDraw, Corel Suite or Adobe Illustrator.
Experience with Content Management Systems.
Knowledge of S1000D.
Military background with proven experience documenting IR/RF Countermeasure Systems, ATE, Radar, or Targeting Systems.
Travel Occasional domestic travel up to ~10% of the time for business meetings will be required throughout the year.
Location Full‑time, on‑site at Rolling Meadows, IL.

Salary Primary Level Salary Range: $81,800.00 – $122,600.00. The range is a general guideline; compensation is determined based on scope and responsibilities, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
