Copy Writing Intern
The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is seeking a Copy Writing Intern (late August through December term) to support promotional efforts for the museum and the MIM Music Theater. Working closely with the Copy Writer and members of the creative team, the intern will gain hands‑on experience in brand-focused messaging, narrative development, and creative storytelling in a nonprofit arts environment.
Responsibilities
Write copy for a variety of MIM marketing materials, such as promotional emails, program collateral, and advertisements.
Brainstorm, research, and compile content for use in MIM’s communications, such as the museum member publication, email newsletter, blog posts, and more.
Assist with interviews and narrative development for articles and blog posts.
Maintain organized internal records and databases.
Ensure accurate information and maintain brand voice in written materials.
Collaborate with multiple departments to support consistent, strategic messaging.
Proactively tour the museum galleries and attend MIM programs to build and maintain institutional awareness for promotional efforts.
Assist with additional tasks and projects as needs arise.

Qualifications
Current student enrolled in an accredited degree program, or a recent college graduate.
Strong writing, research, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
Proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
Previous experience or coursework in copy writing, creative writing, or communications preferred but not required.
A demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in writing or a related field.
Compensation and Schedule
This is a paid, part-time internship based on‑site at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. Interns are expected to work approximately 20–24 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and will be coordinated to accommodate both the intern’s academic commitments and the department’s needs. Compensation is at the current Arizona state minimum wage.

Physical Demands
This is a sedentary position that requires the incumbent to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
This position occasionally requires the incumbent to walk and stand throughout the museum while participating in MIM events.
Work Environment
The work environment is generally indoors in the museum and general office environment.
