What We're Doing
Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize inbound ballistic missile threats, plan the best defensive solution, and launch intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

Responsibilities

Write, rewrite, and/or edit technical and programmatic documents, technical procedure manuals, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively.

Ensure documents are written using correct applicable templates, properly format text, and apply correct use of punctuation and grammar.

Update existing templates as required; oversee the preparation of illustrative materials, and select drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.

Conduct quality reviews of materials.

Attend technical and other review boards.

Interview product developers.

Observe performance of production methods.

Reference technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience; 3 years experience with a Master’s degree. 7 years of additional experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Must have MIL STD 40051 experience.

Experience with XML, Arbor text and/or SGML.

Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.

Experience understanding complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.

Experience facilitating/supporting review boards.

Effective time management skills and ability to multi-task.

Experience creating, editing, and revising moderately complex technical documents such as operating manuals, user guides, checklists, training materials, installation guides, and functional specifications.

Experience proofreading and ensuring compliance with program-specific or DoD documentation standards and formatting requirements.

Active DOD Security Clearance.

Desired Skills

Ability to stand up a Release Library and verify that changes identified during board reviews are incorporated into documents and the Release Library.

Understanding and application of military technical order principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

Existing knowledge of military aircraft technical order editing/writing processes.

Familiarity with technical manuals and standards specific to Integrated Product Support (IPS) or other logistics documentation such as Maintenance Work Instructions, Technical Orders.

Knowledge of S1000D or other Structured Document specifications.

Capability to produce clear, concise, and well-organized documentation while adhering to approved style guides and quality control processes.

Security Clearance
Secret. This position requires a government security clearance, and you must be a US Citizen.

Work Arrangement
Onsite full-time at a designated Lockheed Martin facility, with a work schedule of 9x80 every other Friday off.
