Summary:

This position supports communications needs for the UNC School of Medicine Office of Research. The Communications Manager provides comprehensive communications and marketing support for the Office of Research and units within its infrastructure. Duties include leading science storytelling strategy, internal and external communications, business to business communications, leadership support, events support, web content and more.

Responsibilities:

Develop and manage content in line with UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC School of Medicine, and UNC Health guidance, supporting Office of Research business initiatives.

Lead science, research and innovation storytelling strategy for the School of Medicine, collaborating with colleagues across teams on best practices, guidance, and execution.

Support units with business‑to‑business needs and elevate SOM service offerings to industry.

Collaborate with creative teammates to produce content (e.g., coordinate graphics, photography or videography).

Collaborate with social media colleagues on strategy and analytics.

Assist media relations with news pitches, responses to media inquiries, and preparation for news opportunities.

Support internal communications to staff and researchers.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Science or related field.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

No licensure or certification required.

Professional Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:

Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service skills.
