Overview
Category Management includes contract management responsibility for medical supplies, non‑medical supplies, and purchased services with a focus on "best value" and Total Cost of Ownership. The Director leads the Category Management team and the Value Based Selection program to ensure unparalleled value for internal and external stakeholders. The role collaborates with Supply Chain, Finance, Accounts Payable, Master Data Management, IT Services, and external suppliers to develop and maintain scalable sourcing processes, manage pricing files, negotiate contracts, and lead the Non‑Labor Spend program.
What You Will Do
Lead the Category Management team and collaborate with the VP of Strategic Sourcing to establish and maintain the sourcing vision.
Provide input to the VP on change implementations and enhancements to support targeted success factors.
Assume temporary responsibilities of the VP of Strategic Sourcing when unavailable.
Develop and nurture relationships with internal stakeholders within Supply Chain and across the Enterprise to improve service levels and processes.
Maintain supplier relationships, develop and implement performance and quality measures, and ensure high service levels and cost effectiveness.
Implement strategic plans with supplier partners to achieve “Total Value goals” measured by cost, quality, sustainability, resilience, and diversity.
Partner with Purchasing, Master Data Management, and Accounts Payable to ensure accuracy of vendor files.
Create strategies and tactical planning for process and technology improvements.
Monitor key performance indicators and financial reports to ensure compliance with budgets and standards.
Lead cross‑departmental initiatives and projects with enterprise-wide impact.
Develop strategic and operational relationships with Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) and align contracts with appropriate tier levels.
Oversee contract formation with critical vendors, including negotiation, administration, and ongoing management of vendor relationships to meet performance expectations.
Provide senior leadership over the NLS Management Subcommittees to achieve targeted success and over the Non‑Labor Savings Management Subcommittees to lead savings initiatives across Stanford Medicine.
Work closely with stakeholders to develop cost reduction strategies and lead teams in analyzing products, services, and contracts for best value decisions.
Direct team activities in contract administration, price analysis, and vendor negotiations, and monitor contract volume, supply chain performance, and value‑based selection outcomes.
Lead and facilitate implementation of new or modified policies and procedures based on enterprise best practices and regulatory compliance.
Recruit, mentor, and develop team members, establishing clear roles, fostering collaboration, and providing professional development to meet program objectives.
Perform other related and incidental duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience Qualifications
10+ years of relevant experience in Strategic Sourcing, Contract Administration, Vendor Management, and/or Procurement.
7+ years in leading high‑performance, goal‑oriented teams.
Healthcare experience desirable.
Experience managing large‑scale initiatives and working with a GPO preferred.
Experience simultaneously managing multiple initiatives essential.
Knowledge of leading industry standards and best practice.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $89.01 – $117.94 per hour. The salary for the selected candidate will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. This pay scale is not a guarantee of a particular wage.
