Extension Program Coordinator I
Overview
The Extension Program Coordinator I provides programming and outreach to the USU Extension Informal Science Education Enhancement program in Salt Lake County. The Coordinator will plan and facilitate school‑based experiences in 5th grade classrooms at public and charter schools throughout the county. The Coordinator will also assist in educator outreach events with community partners and facilitate field trips at the USU Bastian Center. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide informal youth programming in Salt Lake County. These programs will align with Utah education standards and be delivered using experiential learning. The position reports to the Extension Youth Programs STEM Faculty Member who manages the iSEE grant program for Utah State University. The role is contingent upon funds, need, and performance. Finalists will be subject to a Utah Bureau of Criminal Investigation and FBI Background Check.
Responsibilities
Facilitate classroom visits in assigned communities for the USU Extension Informal Science Education Enhancement program, When Spheres Collide.
Advance the Extension Youth Programs’ efforts to provide quality, research‑based field trips and other opportunities to youth and educators using STEM education and experiential learning.
Maintain accurate records of school participation in outreach programs.
Collaborate in designing and implementing STEM outreach programs and teacher professional development.
Attend staff meetings and provide updates on program developments and events to various Extension teams.
Coordinate with county faculty and staff to align with county programming.
Respond promptly and professionally to requests, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence.
Keep equipment and materials clean, organized, and in good working condition.
Assist with program assessment.
Work occasional nights and weekends as needed.
Qualifications
Four years of experience; or an associate degree/technical training plus two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Working with 4‑H or youth experience.
Experience with environmental education outreach.
Experience recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
Experience working with low‑income and underserved audiences.
Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High degree of self‑motivation.
Ability to teach, manage, and engage an audience (youth and/or adult).
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals.
Skills with youth and adult education.
Strong organizational, time, and project‑management skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Computer and technology skills – Microsoft Office, Google Docs, social media, etc.
Flexibility and adaptability to respond to conditions (e.g., weather, COVID).
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to travel throughout an area of responsibility consistent with university policy.
