The Cato Institute seeks an organized, motivated and detail-oriented Program Assistant/Manager to join the Technology Policy team. The Technology Policy Program Manager or Assistant will support Cato’s growing technology policy team individually as well as the program as a whole. This person will play an important role as Cato prepares to launch its tech policy center. The role will be responsible for helping implement various plans for the growing team, coordinating internally, and, more generally, supporting Cato’s presence as a go-to source for technology policy. The individual in the role will serve as a liaison between tech policy scholars and Cato’s communications, events, development, government/external affairs, and other internal teams to ensure the program’s priorities are well coordinated, communicated, and effectively executed.

The ideal candidate for this position has strong organizational skills, the ability to handle a variety of administrative tasks as well as strategic planning and execution, and an interest in technology policy and classical liberal ideas.

Hybrid position in Washington, DC. Projected salary range $50,000 - $95,000 per year. Compensation is based on the successful candidate's educational background, experience, and skills.

Responsibilities

Work with team scholars to implement strategic plans and goals for the tech policy program

Coordinate across internal teams on current and forthcoming technology policy goals, research, and events

Develop and implement systems to allow further reach both internally and externally

Support experts in preparation for events, meetings, and conferences

Assist with the preparation of board reports, monthly reports, and expenses internally

Provide administrative support for the team, including staffing events, preparing materials, assisting with recruiting efforts, and helping with the scheduling and administrative needs of program scholars

Draft program notes and reports, and identify areas for improvement or notable successes for workflows and projects

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree

At least two years of work experience for the assistant level and five years of work experience for the manager level in a similar position

An interest in technology policy and its issues

A strong understanding of, and alignment with, libertarian or classical liberal principles

Skills

A proven track record of excellent attention to detail, communication, and organization across teams in a fast-paced environment

An ability to show initiative and improve existing processes, as well as help develop new systems and workflows

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work on multiple tasks both independently and as part of a team on a time-sensitive basis.
