Job Summary
Site: The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Corporation (Cambridge). This role focuses on continuous patient observation and support within the Mass General Brigham system.
Key Responsibilities
Provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
Verbally redirect patients from engaging in at‑risk behaviors.
Summon nursing staff when the patient requires assistance via communication device or STAT Alert Alarm (if appropriate).
Maintain knowledge and support patient and institutional confidentiality and related policies.
Demonstrate proficiency with Video Monitoring (VM) software.
Maintain visual observation at all times.
Use digital 2‑way audio device in patient rooms to redirect patients.
Immediately summon nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
Provide care based on the individualized treatment plan delegated by the RN.
Participate in hand‑offs of pertinent information/behavior upon arrival and completion of shift.
Provide explanations to patients as needed, but do not give unsolicited opinions.
Demonstrate Service Excellence behaviors.
Seek help or advice promptly when a patient appears to pose an immediate threat to themselves or others.
Collaborate in identifying and reporting patient safety issues.
Ensure patient environment safety.
Assist with removal of potential safety hazards and report findings to RN.
Follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, and participate in organizational safety programs.
Maintain dedicated focus on observing patients without outside distractions.
Stay connected via audio and never remove the headset.
Never leave the monitor station unattended; request backup if a step away is required.
Prohibit food or drink in patient care areas and maintain a clean workspace.
Disallow cell‑phone use in patient care areas.
Maintain required documentation.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Effective verbal, electronic, and written communication skills in English.
Computer proficiency; Microsoft Office experience is preferred, with the ability to learn new software.
Ability to maintain a variable work schedule, including evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and travel.
Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
Strong teamwork and self‑direction; can work independently while contributing to the team.
Ability to anticipate challenges and develop strategies to address them.
High level of service delivery with initiative, prioritization, meeting deadlines, and adaptability.
Attention to detail.
