Purpose
This position exists to engage and educate diverse communities to prevent nicotine use, particularly among youth. It builds partnerships, promotes cessation resources, and supports equitable public health efforts through outreach, education, and advocacy.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include education and outreach to communities, community organizations, state agency programs, health councils, and other stakeholders across New Mexico; providing support to the northeast region and other regions as needed; using evidence‑based programs to advance health equity; promoting and communicating NUPAC and NMDOH initiatives; developing and negotiating scopes of work for contracts; monitoring and overseeing contracted activities to ensure deliverables are met; and providing technical assistance and support to contractors and stakeholders to enhance program implementation.

Customers
All New Mexico residents, community coalitions, health councils, program contractors and partners, public health professionals, health‑care professionals, community organizations, stakeholders, and other state agencies.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's degree

in Health Education, Community Health, Public Health, or related field;

Master's degree

a plus.

Experience and knowledge of public health principles and approaches.

Strong writing skills for diverse audiences; grant writing experience a plus.

Excellent public speaking skills.

Experience working toward health equity in priority populations, including tribal communities.

Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience in program administration or project management related to the position's purpose. Any combination of education and/or experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or obtain certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting with extensive use of visual/video display terminals, personal computers, tablets, printers, calculators, cell phones, copy machines, scanners, keyboards, and telephones. Occasional travel, extra hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Bargaining Unit Position
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and all terms and conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
