Roadway Lighting Technician
This position performs progressively responsible work in the troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway lighting systems. This individual must learn the roadway lighting system, be mechanically inclined, have experience with electrical troubleshooting, and have a general knowledge of electrical theory and tools. They must also have a basic knowledge of residential or commercial wiring. The Roadway Lighting Technician will gradually be assigned more difficult tasks exercising sound judgement, and be expected to operate independently during the course of employment.
Replaces panel boxes, breakers, ballasts, and bulbs.
Performs preventative maintenance on roadway lights.
Removes and repairs damaged poles and lights.
Troubleshoots faults in roadway lighting circuits.
Installs new roadway lights, conduit, bases, and wiring.
Inspects job sites for compliance with the National Electrical Code, Augusta-Richmond County regulations, and Georgia Power specifications.
Cleans and maintains tools, vehicles, and building.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
General knowledge of electrical-mechanical theory, various construction and installation methods, and applicable electrical uniform codes relating to roadway lighting systems, materials, vehicles, and equipment used in installation and maintenance.
Familiarity with the reading and understanding of wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical
Proficiency in locating and correcting electrical issues in systems, operating bucket trucks other similar equipment, and performing manual labor at all times of the day in all weather conditions.
