We are seeking a Senior WordPress Developer with deep experience in modern WordPress development, accessibility standards, and performance optimization. You’ll be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving custom themes and plugins with a strong emphasis on WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance.
This role requires both front‑end and back‑end WordPress expertise, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to lead technical direction in a collaborative, cross‑functional team environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins following modern coding standards (ES6+, PHP 8+, HTML5, CSS3/SCSS).
- Lead the development and maintenance of custom WordPress websites using modern front‑end and back‑end technologies.
- Integrate APIs and third‑party services.
- Ensure websites are responsive, performant, and meet modern standards, including basic accessibility compliance (WCAG/ADA).
- Collaborate with designers, project manager, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce best practices, and maintain documentation in our development playbook.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small team of developers.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance team efficiency and project outcomes.
- Stay updated with WordPress core, Gutenberg/block editor enhancements, and accessibility regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of professional experience in WordPress development.
- Deep knowledge of the WordPress ecosystem, including the block editor (Gutenberg), hooks, REST API, and custom post types.
- Experience building mobile‑first, responsive websites.
- Experience integrating APIs and developing scalable plugin solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in using tools like Asana and Microsoft 365 for project management and communication.
- Proficiency in debugging and patching code, UI/UX design, and best practices.
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.1/2.2 guidelines and implementing accessibility best practices, testing with screen readers and other accessibility testing tools (axe, Lighthouse, WAVE, NVDA).
- Understanding of performance optimization techniques (lazy loading, caching, database queries).
