Job Description

Requires extensive familiarity with terminology, format, and clarity of expression to assist in preparing documents.

Interprets text to assure consistency within the document. Locates sources to verify factual information. Requires familiarity with technical terminology and multimedia formats.

Work includes the ability to convert photo and graphic formats and insert web links, photographs, graphics, and video files.

Identifies inconsistencies between text and charts, tables, and other graphics.

Restructures sentences for clarity without altering the meaning of the text.

Contacts authors to resolve inconsistencies in factual information.

Identifies to the Technical Writing leader documents in need of major reorganization. Provides technical assistance to others on a variety of publications which differ in manner and style of presentation.

Proofreads documents to verify that the proof or final copy is clear and concise.

Documents shall be error‑free when submitted to the Technical Writing leader/originating offices.

Safeguards passwords and access to office computer files and programs.

Requirements

Eight (8) years experience as an Editorial Technician/Technical Writer; or an Associate’s Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Mass Communications, or Science and six (6) years experience in technical writing or editing; or a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Communications, Science or Engineering and four (4) years experience in technical writing or editing.

Proficient in the advanced functionality and tools of Word and Adobe Acrobat.

Must be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office Software.

Must possess a valid state driver’s license; may be required to be licensed to operate government‑provided vehicles.

Must be U.S. citizen and possess a high school diploma.

Able to speak, read, write, and understand English proficiently and have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.

Must maintain a 100% drug‑free working environment.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance and CAC.

Other qualifications: may be required to maintain medical examinations, including urinalysis, in vivo lung scan, laser eye examinations, audiometric tests, and protective equipment usage as required by job duties.

Travel
May be required to travel on a short notice basis to CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
May be required to wear the appropriate PPE and respirator to protect from potential respiratory hazards. Personnel issued respirators must be medically cleared and clean shaven.

Medical Examinations and Conditions
Must be physically able to perform work in conditions of extreme heat and cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, working in confined spaces and at heights, and/or walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing personal protective equipment.

Legal and Safety Requirements
Must take precautions to avoid contracting Lyme disease when working in grassy and wooded areas on APG. Must participate in required health screenings such as urinalysis, lung scans, and laser eye examinations on a random basis. Personnel exposed to loud noises exceeding 29 CFR Part 1910.95 levels must receive audiometric testing.
