Wisconsin Legislature Photographer Job at State of Wisconsin in Madison

Position Summary
The Wisconsin Legislature is seeking a Photographer to provide non‑partisan support to the Wisconsin State Legislature. The role is jointly managed by the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate, reporting to the Assembly Chief Clerk’s office.

Responsibilities

Capture photographic still images upon request and at legislative settings, including committee hearings, press conferences, floor coverage during Assembly/Senate session days, legislative portraits, school groups, legislators with visiting constituents, and governor’s bill signings.

Maintain camera equipment and related accessories.

Collaborate with graphic artists to facilitate production of printed materials.

Conduct post‑production, manage digital files, and deliver finished products to legislative clients.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of still photography concepts, including advanced understanding of camera and lens functions, exposure fundamentals, lighting techniques, and image composition.

Thorough knowledge of digital capture and output, color management skills, and the ability to manage digital files in the Adobe Photoshop environment.

Ability to work comfortably under pressure and with people of varied backgrounds.

Professional, objective, and impartial demeanor when dealing with legislators and the public.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Highly productive, meeting deadlines under stressful conditions.

Excellent customer service skills.

Minimum Training and Experience

Graduate of a college or university of recognized standing.

At least 18 months of combined training and experience in photography, or an equivalent combination.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive hand and finger movements (typing/writing).

Occasional sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

Reach with hands and arms.

Salary and Benefits
Salary ranges between $49,406 and $75,314 annually, depending on experience and education. The position includes the same fringe benefits available to other State of Wisconsin employees.
