Pay:
70.000 - 100.000
Job type:
Full Time

Emerald Engineering is seeking an experienced VDC Designer to develop and coordinate electrical Building Information Models (BIM) that support successful commercial construction projects from preconstruction through installation.

In this role, you'll report to the VDC Manager and collaborate closely with Emerald Engineering’s multidisciplinary design teams while partnering with our sister company’s (Copperline Electric) field leadership and project teams to create accurate, constructible Revit models that improve coordination, reduce rework, and drive successful project execution. Your work will directly influence project quality, constructability, and field success by helping identify challenges before they reach the jobsite.

This position is based full-time at Emerald’s corporate headquarters in Tampa, Florida (33619). While occasional travel to active construction jobsites is required to support project coordination and field operations, this is not a hybrid or remote position.

What You’ll Do

Develop, populate, and maintain detailed electrical Revit models throughout the project lifecycle.

Model electrical rooms, equipment layouts, conduit systems, cable pathways, and related electrical infrastructure.

Produce accurate conduit routing and installation layouts.

Revise models based on field feedback, redlines, design changes, and project updates.

Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection meetings.

Identify, document, and track coordination issues.

Collaborate with project teams and other trades to resolve clashes and improve constructability.

Create Revit models using Autodesk Forma when applicable.

Export layout data for Leica field equipment.

Support field operations by providing accurate, constructible models and coordinated layouts.

Maintain project documentation and model accuracy throughout each phase of construction.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience performing VDC/BIM design work using Autodesk Revit.

Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.

Working knowledge of commercial construction workflows.

Basic understanding of construction methods across multiple trades.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.

Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Electrical VDC and/or electrical design experience.

Formal education or technical training in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, BIM, VDC, or a related field.

Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD.

Experience with Autodesk Navisworks.

Experience exporting layout data for Leica field equipment.

Who You Are
Our ideal candidate combines strong technical ability with equally strong interpersonal skills. You're someone who enjoys collaborating with others just as much as producing accurate, constructible models.

You are someone who:

Takes pride in producing organized, accurate, high‑quality work.

Communicates professionally and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders.

Understands that successful VDC requires both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills.

Thinks beyond the model to improve constructability and field execution.

Values teamwork and contributes to a positive, solution‑oriented culture.

Takes ownership of your work while continuously seeking opportunities to learn and improve.

Physical & Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment at Emerald’s corporate headquarters in Tampa, FL (33619).

Must be able to navigate active construction environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Other Requirements

Must be able to work full‑time onsite, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment sponsorship.
