University Advancement is hiring one (1) student to support marketing and communications within University Advancement and the UWM Alumni Association.

This role supports the marketing, communications and engagement activities within University Advancement. The position will provide a variety of hands‑on learning opportunities such as content creation using different channels, administrative support, data analytics and input into strategy. We are looking for a creative member who is an extension of our team.

Responsibilities may include:

Administrative Support

Ability to complete tasks on-time and negotiate multiple competing deadlines.

Fill campus partner orders for swag, get gifts together for speakers and events.

Organize, audit and track alumni and advancement collateral and swag inventories.

Content Creation

Ability to write a variety of short and long form material such as social media posts, website copy, news features, email copy and highlights on people or programs.

Ability to proofread and edit materials such as video closed captions.

Seek and verify accurate and honest information to support communications manager.

Capture video and photography. Willing to learn how to edit media for professional use.

Handle outreach and scheduling for marketing efforts.

Content Activation

Draft social media posts for various channels such as Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn for review.

Draft posts related to stories, events and campaigns on websites such as Panther Family Portal and Panthers Connect.

Draft and submit events, as needed, to public listings for community promotion.

Engage social media followers, respond to messages and post comments.

Evaluate peer institutions to influence our content creation.

Content Analysis

Evaluates success of content created for multiple channels including web, social and print.

HOURS
Approximate hours per week: 15-20 · Monday through Friday, with availability in minimum two‑hour blocks preferred. · Academic year only

Critical Thinking is developed through the day‑to‑day troubleshooting of issues related to maintaining pinsetter functions, customer concerns, and other issues that arise during shifts.

Communication is developed through interactions with customers, colleagues, supervisors, and visitors, including regular assistance and assistance with questions or concerns.
