Position Overview
WFTV Channel 9 Eyewitness News is seeking a dynamic, engaging, and detail-oriented On-Air Traffic Anchor to join Central Florida's leading news team. This role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compelling traffic reports across multiple newscasts and platforms, helping viewers navigate their daily commutes with confidence.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with excellent live presentation skills, a command of Central Florida roadways, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, breaking-news environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver live, on-air traffic reports during morning and/or evening newscasts with clarity, urgency, and personality

Monitor real-time traffic systems, scanners, and data platforms to identify incidents, delays, and developing situations

Coordinate closely with producers, assignment desk, and digital teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date information

Use traffic maps, graphics systems, and camera feeds to visually enhance storytelling

Provide breaking traffic updates during severe weather, major crashes, and high-impact events

Consistently produce original, impactful stories and produce a daily packaged report following the morning show for use in later newscasts and across digital platforms

Contribute traffic content to digital platforms, including website, mobile apps, and social media

Maintain a strong on-air presence that aligns with the Eyewitness News brand

Minimum Qualifications

Strong ad‑libbing skills and ability to perform under tight deadlines

Familiarity with Central Florida roadways, including major interstates, toll roads, and commuter routes

Experience with traffic data systems (e.g., Waze, DOT feeds, traffic cameras) and broadcast graphics tools

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Prior on-air experience as a traffic anchor, reporter, or meteorologist preferred

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Social media savvy with the ability to engage audiences beyond broadcast

Knowledge of severe weather coverage and its impact on traffic patterns
