Director - Software Engineering

Responsibilities

Experience managing a team of passionate engineers, including recruitment
Passion for service ownership, building reliable and self‑healing services
Experience working in a complex team environment, delivering under pressure and dependency constraints
Building large‑scale distributed systems, especially in cloud environments
Familiarity with public cloud services such as AWS and Google Cloud Platform
Good knowledge of network technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies
Experience with Scrum or other agile development methodologies, focusing on code quality and secure code delivery
Balancing live‑site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt
Enjoyable challenge of building reliable, self‑healing services on unreliable hardware
Designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers
Driving and delivering thin slices of end‑to‑end functionality on a regular cadence with data‑driven feedback loops

Qualifications

9+ years of experience with at least 4 years of management experience
Experience with Golang, Java, and/or C++ in a Linux/UNIX data center environment
Live‑site/production service ownership experience
Distributed system design experience
Ownership and operation of multiple instances of a mission‑critical service
Agile development methodology and Test‑Driven Development experience
Use of telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with networking, including TCP, TLS, DNS

Typical base salary range for this position is $197,300 – $313,700 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York‑City metropolitan areas, the range is $237,700 – $344,700 annually. The range represents base salary only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
