About the project: Set in Yonkers in 1942, this memory play follows two young boys left in the care of their stern grandmother after their father hits the road as a salesman. The boys must contend with Grandma, their aunt Bella and her secret romance, and their uncle Louie, a small‑time hoodlum.
15‑year‑old older brother who acts as an observer and protector of Arty
Grandma Kurnitz – Female 65‑80 y.o. All ethnicities: The stern, abusive, and uncompromising matriarch who runs a candy store.
Aunt Bella – The boys’ loving, eccentric aunt who desires a life of her own.
Uncle Louie – Male 35‑50 y.o. All ethnicities: A small‑time, tough‑talking bagman on the run. Little bit of bite, whole lotta bark.
Gert Kurnitz – Female 35‑50 y.o. All ethnicities: The boys’ aunt, who suffers from a peculiar breathing habit the boys find unsettling.
The performances will take place on October 23–25, 2026 at Central High School Cultural and Educational Center.
Callbacks: Monday, July 13th, 6:00 PM–9:00 PM. Please prepare a 60–95 second contemporary serio‑comedic monologue. If interested, please apply.
