The GMU-TV network provides a wide array of award winningeducational, informational, and public affairs programming toNorthern Virginia, the nation's capital, and the world. Our missionis to support excellence in learning and teaching by producingquality educational and informational programming. We do this bycreating video enhanced courses for distributed learning;programming promoting the research and scholarly activity of Masonfaculty and students; and community outreach programming for publicawareness and recruitment.

About the Position:

The Producer/Director is responsible for conceptualizing, finalscripting, directing, shooting, and editing assigned GMU-TVproductions under the guidance of the General Manager/ExecutiveProducer or a Senior Producer. This position is also responsiblefor developing program ideas. Writes reports, maintainsstudio/facility equipment, and promotes and supports OUB/GMU-TVactivities as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Producer/Director:
Conceptualize, script, direct, shoot, and edit assigned GMU-TVproductions;
Meet with supervisor and/or assigned clients to receiveproduction briefs and clarify scope;
Develop production concept/strategy and production schedule incollaboration with the General Manager/Executive Producer;
Serve as primary producer and director for assignedproductions;
Supervise assigned production crew members on specificproductions;
Ensure all assigned projects and tasks are completed within thedeadline;
Manage multiple projects, and edit, design, and producemulti-media programs;
Follow up with General Manager/Executive Producer to ensure allcompleted projects are reviewed in a timely manner;
Explore new options and suggest ideas for productionimprovements. Stay current with industry trends and bring specificrecommendations to senior staff regarding GMU-TV's workflow,processes, hardware, and software;
Seek professional development opportunities and participate intraining;
Recommend and contribute to the development of new programmingthat supports Mason/OUB/GMU-TV goals and mission;
Provide frequent, constructive feedback to General Manager,Executive Producer, crew, and clients regarding productionprogress, challenges, and needs; and
Ensure crew has the necessary knowledge, skills, and/orabilities to accomplish goals. Educate and inform production crewsabout new or different procedures. Suggest areas for professionalimprovement. Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g.,FCC) and with industry and campus standards.
Production Support:
Provide production support, serving as videographer, editor,audio technician, or other crew roles for assignedproductions;
Assist other Producer/Directors with the development ofcreative concepts;
Complete duties as assigned by the General Manager withinestablished deadlines. Follow established guidelines for productionand policy;
Stay current with industry trends and make recommendations tomanagement; and
Provide frequent, constructive feedback to GeneralManager/Executive Producer and crew, regarding production equipmentneeds.
University Citizen:
Help create a positive image for GMU-TV, OUB, and theuniversity;
Present a positive, forward-looking image of the university andGMU-TV;
Provide tours of GMU-TV facilities as needed;
Make recommendations for promotional opportunities and/or goodsand services;
Promote GMU-TV at various events;
Assist other members of OUB, and/or the university asassigned;
Participate in OUB events and committees;
Provide frequent, constructive feedback to GeneralManager/Executive Producer/assigned project leaders regardingconcerns and needs;
Participate and take leadership roles in OUB projects and/orcommittees;
Contribute to customer service and outreach improvements;and
Identify methods to improve customer service and departmentaleducation.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, film or video production,communication, multimedia design, or photography is required. Anequivalent combination of education and relevant work experiencewill be considered in lieu of the college degree requirement;
Demonstrated professional video production or producerexperience is required (typically, at least two years);
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in directing; lighting,audio acquisition, and videography techniques in field and studiosituations; nonlinear editing; and video compression, basicequipment troubleshooting and equipment maintenance;
Expertise in the operation of professional studio and fieldvideo production equipment;
Proficiency in scriptwriting, copywriting, or creativedirecting (especially in the areas of documentary, educational, orcorporate production);
Demonstrated excellent post-production skills;
Well organized and responsible for production planning,coordination, and scheduling;
Ability to work independently and within a production team toconceptualize and execute media/production solutions, while meetingdeadlines and clearly communicating with colleagues;
Ability to work independently and with GMU-TV team members toensure quality, on-time and within budget delivery with everyproduction;
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines under directsupervision and independently;
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (with or without reasonableaccommodation);
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time;
Ability to work as a team player with diverse populations, andwillingness to work flexible shifts;
Passion for continually developing professional skills andwatching tutorials, and reading trade forums and professionalliterature to stay informed of trends and innovations in theproduction industry; and
Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motorvehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements foroperating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle UsePolicy 1411

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field;
Experience designing 2D/3D graphics and motion graphics;and
Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Macs, andMicrosoft Office.
