About the role
Associate Editor will play a pivotal role in the editorial process, ensuring that articles, documents, podcasts and other content meet Lawfare’s editorial standards. Responsibilities also include assisting with long‑term research projects, collaborating with the network of experts, and opportunities to write articles and host podcasts.
Key Responsibilities
Review submissions for possible publication on the Lawfare website.
Solicit submissions from contributors based on current developments and gaps in coverage.
Process accepted submissions to prepare them for publication.
Work with the podcast team to develop new audio content and daily podcasts.
Contribute to long‑ and short‑term research projects under guidance of senior editorial staff.
Ensure final copyediting and posting of publications to the website.
Assist the managing editor in setting and maintaining the publication schedule.
Contribute as needed to podcasts and articles on topics of particular expertise or need.
Manage the website, including rotating highlighted pieces, posting documents and livestreams, and coordinating with the web hosting team.
Handle scheduling and other administrative duties.
Assist with fundraising and donor documentation as needed.
Hire and manage interns.
Complete other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
Entry‑level position suitable for recent college graduates or those with a year or two of work experience. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in political science, government, journalism, or history. Outstanding writing, analytical, and research skills are required, with an interest in national security issues. Candidates must work effectively with minimal supervision, have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and organizational skills, take initiative, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Prior experience in editing, journalism, the legal industry, or digital media is a plus.

Compensation
Salary range: $48,800 – $60,000 per year. Benefits include health and dental care with premiums paid by Lawfare, flexible hours, and participation in a 401(k) plan with up to 4% employer match.
