Job Summary
Collins Aerospace is seeking a motivated Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the Future Systems team supporting development of the Collins Flight Deck. This onsite position in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, offers the opportunity to work on real avionics programs and gain hands‑on experience across the systems lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and delivery.
Responsibilities
Support development and verification of avionics system requirements and behaviors.
Contribute to architecture, interface, and system design discussions for next‑generation flight deck capabilities.
Create, update, and execute verification artifacts such as test procedures, test cases, and supporting analysis.
Help investigate defects, analyze system behavior, and support root‑cause activities during integration and test.
Work with engineers across systems, software, and test to solve technical problems and improve product quality.
Demonstrate ownership of assigned tasks by driving work to closure and communicating progress, risks, and questions proactively.
Collaborate with a cross‑functional team of systems, software, integration, and test engineers to develop and deliver avionics system solutions.
Support development, analysis, and refinement of system requirements and interfaces.
Contribute to verification planning and test development to ensure implementations satisfy system requirements.
Participate in technical reviews of requirements, design artifacts, and test procedures, incorporating feedback into your own work.
Assist with system integration, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in lab and development environments.
Communicate technical status, issues, and proposed solutions clearly to team members and mentors.
Travel up to 10% per year.
What You Will Learn
You will gain experience across the full engineering lifecycle of avionics systems, learn to work with system requirements, architecture artifacts, and verification methods used on real aerospace programs, and develop structured problem‑solving, technical communication, and engineering rigor in a safety‑critical domain.
Qualifications – Must Have
Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with at least 7 years of experience.
Avionics user interface development experience and a strong understanding of aircraft use and CONOPS.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Previous experience taking ownership of assigned work, following through on commitments, and delivering quality results.
Qualifications – Preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical ideas, assumptions, and issues.
Demonstrated team leadership capability, engineering development capability, and strong communication skills.
Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn complex technical systems.
Pilot rating and pilot operational experience.

Salary
USD 132,400 – 251,600 per year.
