The salary range for this position is $104,000.00 - $124,000.00 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

About The Role

The Design Supervisor is responsible for managing an overhead and underground facilities design team on the Xcel Energy project, specifically the EPSS and SRP programs. The role also includes providing ongoing feedback, direction of work, performance evaluations, and training to their team. This supervisor monitors the overall process of design on their team including, but not limited to, overhead design, inventory, pole boring, structural analysis, and construction prints. The incumbent is responsible for quality checking all of team's work and updating team on new project design standards. Additionally, the design supervisor prepares for and attends client engineering and construction meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

Defines the scope of the project in collaboration with leadership, designers, and the client
Creates a detailed work plan using project management software for the team which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete design projects
Determines the resources required to complete projects
Develops a schedule for project completion according to client and United Utility guidelines
Reviews the project schedule periodically with engineering managers and designers to incorporate project activities and revise the schedule accordingly
Determines the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion
Conducts outside meetings with the client to define project scope and submit meeting notes for all client and designated internal staff at pre-construction, pre-engineering, and pre-design stages
Executes the project according to the project plan by developing forms and records to document project activities including files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured
Monitors the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
Reviews the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets project standards
Follows the United Utility safety procedures when out of office and in the field including the pre-job brief and vehicle inspections as well as upholds United Utility guidelines
Guides the designers through the proper procedures of initiating, designing, and submitting projects and ensures they are on pace with their assigned projects
Completes one-on-one meetings with designers on a regular basis to provide ongoing feedback
Participates in meetings with the project manager and engineering managers on a regular basis to discuss the projects and relays relevant information to the Design team
Reviews and approves timesheets
Identifies and mentors team members interested in leadership roles

Decision Making:
Advises management and staff on resolving design and employee related issues. Prioritizes own work. Exercises judgment within sometimes limited and defined procedures and practices to determine the appropriate action. Assesses the scope of assigned projects, collects data and makes decisions. Erroneous actions detected by client review may cause harm to client relationship and may result in the need for additional resources to correct.

Communication:
Engages in internal and external communications with project stakeholders, including managers, supervisors, designers, and client engineers.

Scope and Complexity:
Works on mid to high complexity projects where judgment is essential for problem-solving and decision-making. Receives minimal instructions on routine work and broad guidelines on new assignments. Autonomy is expected after an initial review period, with management oversight focusing on the project's final outcome.

Supervision of Others:
Designers and Lead Designers

Key Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree OR equivalent education and experience,
High school diploma or Equivalent- required.
2 years of experience in distribution hardening design and current experience with Xcel Energy.
Local to Denver, Amarillo, or Palm Beach Gardens office preferred.
Key Nice-To-Haves: Proven ability to manage design personnel, including senior designers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, encompassing Excel, Word, Power Point, and Power BI.
Strong problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and adeptness in managing evolving standards from diverse clients.
Demonstrated excellence in communication.
Experience leading pre-engineering and pre-construction meetings.
Proficiency in conducting comprehensive work reviews and job closings.
Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure
