Position Overview
WEAU seeks an experienced, energetic journalist who understands that today’s audiences discover news on their phones first. As one of our main anchors, you’ll help lead our digital‑first strategy by delivering authoritative coverage across streaming, social media, web, and television. You’ll be the voice and face of WEAU during critical afternoon and evening hours, building trust through sharp storytelling, platform‑native delivery, and real‑time engagement. This is a high‑visibility role in a fast‑paced, multi‑platform newsroom that demands excellence, adaptability, and unwavering editorial integrity.
Core Responsibilities
Anchor afternoon and evening newscasts, breaking news cut‑ins, and streaming segments with consistent quality.
Conduct interviews with newsmakers, experts, and community leaders across broadcast and digital platforms.
Pivot quickly during breaking news, delivering timely updates for streaming, mobile alerts, and social feeds.
Maintain professional, credible on‑air presence tailored to each platform.
Newscast Production & Story Development
Collaborate with producers on story selection, rundowns, and digital‑first coverage plans.
Pitch and develop stories that resonate across mobile, social media, and streaming environments.
Participate in daily editorial meetings with a focus on multi‑platform distribution.
Review and approve scripts for accuracy, clarity, and digital optimization.
Produce newscasts and assist with editing when needed.
Contribute original reporting, including field coverage and digital exclusives.
Storytelling & Digital
Write clear, accurate, AP‑style scripts for broadcast, streaming, web, and social.
Post stories, video, and breaking developments to the station website, app, and social channels with audience‑focused framing.
Collaborate closely with digital producers and editors to ensure accuracy, speed, and editorial integrity.
Community Engagement
Engage viewers across on‑air, streaming, social media, and in‑person channels.
Represent WEAU at community events and other public appearances.
Respond to audience feedback and help shape coverage based on community needs and digital trends.
