Role Synopsis
BPX Energy seeks a highly motivated and skilled Senior Production Systems Engineer to join our team and help revolutionize our U.S. onshore operations. In this role, you will develop and deploy cutting‑edge, data‑driven solutions that optimize production, streamline workflows, and solve enterprise‑level problems. You will collaborate closely with engineers, optimizers, and field operators to translate their challenges into impactful software solutions and process improvements.

Key Accountabilities

Partner with Operations, Optimization, Interventions, and other teams to identify opportunities for improvement and develop innovative solutions that leverage the power of data

Design, develop, and deploy robust applications using Python, SQL, and Snowflake within the AWS cloud environment

Champion the adoption of best practices for software development, including version control, code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)

Collaborate with Technology and Production as a product owner to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing support of in‑house solutions

Contribute to the development and maintenance of enterprise‑level systems and standards that drive efficiency

Build intuitive and insightful reporting tools and dashboards using Power BI, Streamlit, and/or other Python web frameworks to empower data‑driven decision‑making

Leverage AI tools such as Claude Code and create AI agents to facilitate analysis and outcomes

Essential Experience And Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

7+ years experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly related to Petroleum Engineering (preferred)

Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, especially for data‑intensive applications

Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure

Competency with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Dagster (preferred)

Experience developing in Palantir (a plus)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences

A passion for problem‑solving and a strong analytical mindset

Effective communicator who can present complex problems to a diverse audience in a clear and concise manner

Growth mindset with demonstrated ability to quickly learn new concepts, processes, software, and engineering ideas

Resilient, able to tackle open‑ended data‑related problems, clean and prepare complex datasets, and extract valuable insights

Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $165,000 – $194,000
