Required Skills & Experience

Willingness and ability to work both in the office and in the field

Strong desire to learn, accept coaching, and adapt to new software, technology, and equipment

Basic understanding of surveying principles, including coordinate systems and control points

Foundational CAD/BIM literacy (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar platforms)

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to scan locations

Preferred Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Mathematics, or a related field

Experience using AutoCAD

Proficiency with BIM software such as Revit and Civil 3D, particularly for land development and site modeling

Experience with point cloud processing software (TopoDOT, RIEGL RiSCAN, Trimble Business Center)

Knowledge of GIS software and BIM-to-GIS integration for site analysis and data management

Insight Global is seeking an entry-level

Reality Capture Specialist

to support an engineering firm based in Plainville, CT. This role focuses on transforming laser-scanned point cloud data into accurate digital models and deliverables for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) projects. The Reality Capture Specialist plays a key role in enabling efficient design, planning, and construction by delivering precise existing‑condition data within a BIM environment.

Key Responsibilities

Process and analyze raw point cloud data, including registration, noise reduction, and segmentation

Generate accurate topographic surfaces such as Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) using tools like TopoDOT

Extract 2D drawings and 3D models from laser scan data in alignment with project scopes

Utilize BIM and modeling software including Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D, RIEGL RiSCAN, and MicroStation

Collaborate with engineering, design, and construction teams to support site planning and construction monitoring

Perform quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy of point cloud processing and BIM integration

Stay current with advancements in laser scanning, point cloud processing, and BIM technologies

Split time between office-based processing and field support as required
