Overview
The Michigan Community Service Commission sponsors VISTA Projects in organizations throughout the State to empower low‑income communities with support to underserved youth to succeed in school and careers. There are opportunities to serve in mentoring, education, health and economic development organizations that support initiatives in education, youth voice, nutritional education, environmental issues, assisting families with access to health resources, and more.
Member Duties
VISTA members will commit to a year of full‑time service to help organizations increase capacity to allow more individuals in poverty to be served. Activities are specific to the organization but may consist of recruiting youth and adult volunteers to aid in implementing impactful programs, managing volunteers (both youth/adult), making community connections to leverage organization resources, building resources through fundraising and grant writing, and building service capacity through program development. Some programs may offer tele‑service opportunities; however, such opportunities are not guaranteed.
