Overview
Under the general supervision of the Web Designer, the Junior Web Developer Associate provides digital support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Junior Web Developer Associate is responsible for performing some complex clerical, web-related maintenance tasks and projects for the effective operation of the U-SU website and graphics department.

Job Title : Junior Web Developer Associate

Hourly Rate : $18.32 per hour; non-exempt classification

Duration : Academic Year (Fall/Spring) with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule : Up to 20 hours/week (no more than 999 hours per calendar year.) The schedule developed with the Web Designer

Training Period : Two months with the possibility of extension

General Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure all web pages are updated with the most up-to-date information and images available;

Ensure events are updating and rendering accurately on the homepage and virtual calendar;

Research and stay updated on modern technologies and trends;

Frontend: ensure that everything that the users see and interact with adheres to the U-SU’s design and accessibility standards;

Backend: maintain and create API endpoints to our database for CRUD operations while keeping sensitive data secure;

Deployment: ensure the continuous operation and hosting of the website on Vercel;

Attends and participates in mandatory departmental biweekly meetings, 1-1 meetings with the supervisor as needed;

Provides quality customer service to the University community;

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum GPA of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative GPA of 3.0;

Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;

Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;

Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;

Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;

Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize and complete assigned duties and complex tasks;

Strong interpersonal and group communication skills in a team environment;

Must be self-motivated, able to adapt to changing workloads, and have independent judgment;

Experience using various desktop and web-based applications and office equipment;

Experience with user interfaces, responsiveness, image optimization, scripting, web accessibility, design, and web development standards;

Proficiency with GitHub;

Previous web design and/or web programming experience;

Knowledgeable in AGILE workflow and providing updates and work documentation via Notion Kanban;

Perform other duties as assigned.
