Production Manager 1

The Production Manager at Tavis Corporation is a professional and managerial position responsible for the daily execution of manufacturing and production activities of the company. Under general direction from the President, the Production Manager is responsible for managing production department personnel, supporting supervisors, removing obstacles to production flow, and ensuring that parts, sub-assemblies and finished products are manufactured in accordance with company quality, safety, workmanship and delivery requirements.

The Production Manager must be able to effectively manage a diverse group of production personnel, with the goal of efficiently producing aerospace pressure transducer hardware with exceptional quality and reliability. The Production Manager establishes, maintains, and is familiar with all manufacturing-related procedures, ensures that employees follow established procedures, while meeting health and safety requirements, and fosters positive, collaborative attitudes for continuous improvement of workmanship quality, capabilities, methods and efficiencies.

The Production Manager is expected to establish and maintain systems to improve visibility, including work order status, labor and manufacturing tracking, and communication of work-in-process status. The Production Manager uses production data, direct floor observation, communication with supervisors, and Key Process Indicators (KPI) to identify undesirable trends, remove constraints, improve production flow and increase manufacturing capacity and capability.

The Production Manager works in partnership with the Planning Department to support achievement of procurement needs and project delivery dates, communicate production status, and promptly identify any production delays, risks or deviations that may affect the schedule.

Excellent communication is critical between the Production Manager and other managers and department functions within the company. As manufacturing priorities and schedules change, often due to outside influences, the Production Manager must communicate clearly, respond quickly, shift workloads and priorities as appropriate, support customer satisfaction, minimize schedule delays, and ensure that stakeholders have accurate information regarding production status.

PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and direct the manufacture of parts, sub-assemblies and finished products. Manage department personnel involved with assembly, machining and production test. Execute the production schedule, maintain production visibility, communicate work-in-process status, and identify production risks or deviations that may affect delivery commitments. Establish effective production systems and methods, track results and efficiencies, and make improvements. Develop leadership within the department while fostering positive, collaborative attitudes for continuous improvement of workmanship quality, capabilities, methods, capacity and efficiencies.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Manage the daily activities of the Production Department, including Electronic Assembly, Electro-Mechanical Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Machine Shop and Production Test.

2. Execute the approved production schedule and ensure production personnel understand current priorities, delivery requirements and workmanship expectations.

3. Maintain accurate visibility of work-in-process status, production progress, labor constraints, production blockers and schedule risks.

4. Communicate production status, delays, constraints, recovery efforts and deviations to the President, Planning Department, other managers, project engineers, contracts administrators and other stakeholders as appropriate.

5. Work with production supervisors and experienced personnel to identify and remove obstacles that affect throughput, quality, efficiency or on-time completion.

6. Develop, track and react to Key Process Indicators on critical aspects of the manufacturing system.

7. Utilize ERP software capabilities to manage and track production activities, work order status, labor activity and production progress.

8. Work with Engineering and Process Control departments to establish manufacturing methods and processes, and prepare appropriate procedures to document those processes; maintain awareness and understanding of each.

9. Facilitate process improvements by working with supervisors, operators, technicians, engineers, quality personnel and other subject matter experts to improve production flow, workmanship, capability, capacity and efficiency.

10. Ensure that Production employees have adequate written directions to perform their assignments in an efficient and satisfactory manner.

11. Ensure workmanship of the highest quality for critical aerospace applications, including human-rated space flight.

12. Enforce company policies, ensure that Production employees follow procedures, and support safe and orderly manufacturing operations.

13. Provide for adequate training of department employees.

14. Actively participate in efforts for improvement, corrective actions and failures.

15. Direct efforts to improve productivity and efficiency in the manufacturing activities.

16. Work closely with the Quality Department to ensure proper and efficient coordination of in-process inspections, acceptance testing, rework resolution and shipment readiness.

17. Support the development and implementation of improved work methods, better procedures, training programs, tooling, equipment, fixtures and production support systems.

18. Evaluate production capacity, capability, staffing, equipment, workflow and process limitations, and recommend changes necessary to improve production performance.

19. Perform employee evaluations and prepare reviews of employee performance.

20. Perform related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. At least 3 years comprehensive experience in a production, manufacturing or technical management role.

2. At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment.

3. Must demonstrate excellent proficiency in writing and communicating using the English language.

4. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite software, including Excel.

5. Ability to read and interpret specifications, engineering drawings, verification requirements, work instructions and production documentation.

6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, production personnel, managers, engineers, quality personnel and executive leadership.

7. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, remove production blockers, support experienced personnel, and implement improvements in a practical and collaborative manner.

8. Capable of physical requirements of desk/office/computer work; some walking about and using test or assembly equipment on light-duty manufacturing floor; minimal/lightweight lifting.

9. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

10. Candidate will be subject to a background check as applicable by state law.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. BS/BA degree from an accredited institution, preferably in an engineering, technical or management field, or equivalent experience.

2. Management experience in an ISO 9000 / AS 9100 quality system work environment.

3. Previous product experience with low-volume, precision, high-tech assemblies.

4. Knowledge and experience in 5S/Lean Manufacturing methodologies or similar continuous improvement systems.

5. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning software systems.

6. Experience leading experienced production personnel through process improvements, equipment changes, workflow changes or production system improvements.

7. Demonstrated ability to increase manufacturing capacity and capability while maintaining quality, safety, workmanship and employee engagement.
