Role Summary
The Account Director is responsible for leading a portfolio of accounts and managing a cross‑functional account team (pod). This role owns the overall health, growth, and performance of multiple accounts and is accountable for delivering consistent revenue expansion across the portfolio. The Account Director moves beyond individual account management into portfolio‑level leadership, ensuring that all accounts are growing, relationships are expanding, and the team is aligned to deliver both execution excellence and strategic impact. This role is also responsible for coaching and developing Account Managers and Account Executives, ensuring consistent performance across all accounts. This is a player/coach role, both hands on in terms of client interaction and involvement in internal execution.
Marketing Knowledge & Activities
Leads development of integrated marketing strategies that align brand, demand generation, digital, and sales objectives.
Advises clients on market positioning, buyer personas, messaging frameworks, customer journeys, and competitive differentiation.
Participates in annual planning and quarterly business reviews focused on growth, market opportunities, and marketing effectiveness.
Recommends channel investment strategies across paid media, content marketing, SEO, email, social media, ABM, events, and public relations.
Evaluates campaign performance and identifies opportunities to improve pipeline generation, customer acquisition, and marketing ROI.
Supports strategic planning for new product launches, market expansion initiatives, and major campaign programs.
Ensures all marketing activities align with business goals and measurable outcomes
Key Responsibilities
Owns a portfolio of 9–12 accounts
Leads a team pod structure, typically of 2-5 account service team members
Sets the strategic direction across all accounts within the portfolio
Ensures alignment between client business objectives, marketing strategy plus execution and delivery
Leads and oversees integrated marketing efforts across brand and positioning, demand generation, campaign strategy plus content and creative execution
Manages scope, budgets, timelines, and resource allocation at a more complex level
Able and willing to execute all duties and responsibilities of AC, AE, AM, and account director role as needed.
Directly manages and develops Account Managers, Account Executives, and supporting team members
Provides coaching on account strategy, growth planning, client communication, and opportunity identification
Holds team accountable for performance, growth, and execution quality
Builds team capability by developing future leaders, identifying skill gaps, and driving continuous improvement
Ensures pod operates efficiently and collaboratively
Execution & Performance Oversight
Oversees execution quality across all accounts within the portfolio
Ensures all work aligns with strategy, client expectations, and business outcomes
Monitors performance of campaigns and initiatives across accounts
Ensures Account Managers are connecting execution to pipeline, revenue, and business impact
Identifies and addresses performance gaps, resource constraints, and execution breakdowns
Maintains control over scope, budget, and profitability across accounts
Client Relationship Leadership
Builds and maintains senior‑level relationships across client organizations
Engages directly with directors, VPs, senior leadership, and CMOs.
Positions Elevation as a strategic partner across all accounts
Leads high‑impact client conversations, including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), strategic planning sessions and growth and investment discussions
Ensures all accounts demonstrate strong relationship depth, clear value delivery, and alignment with client priorities
Steps in on key accounts to strengthen relationships, address challenges, and accelerate growt
Account Growth & Retention
Ensures every account within the portfolio has an active, clearly defined account penetration and retention plan and they are being executed successfully
Drives consistency in how penetration plans are built, updated and executed
Ensures penetration plans are actively used to drive real growth, not treated as static documents
Drives 15–25% annual growth across the entire portfolio
Holds direct accountability for ensuring all accounts in their POD are expanding in scope, increasing in value plus deepening in engagement
Proactively builds relationships by securing introductions to senior stakeholders and leadership, expanding influence across client organizations and strengthening executive‑level relationships
Maintains visibility into portfolio‑wide pipeline, account‑level opportunities, and growth risks and gaps
Experience & Skill Set
Typically, 9–12+ years’ experience in a B2B marketing, advertising, or agency environment
Has managed 50–100+ cumulative client relationships, including complex and multi‑stakeholder accounts
Has led 30–80+ marketing strategies, programs, or account plans across multiple industries or verticals
Has managed/mentored 8-10 direct reports during their career in marketing
Demonstrates strong expertise in integrated marketing strategy, account portfolio management, multi‑account leadership, and marketing performance and optimization
Proven ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously at scale, build and maintain senior‑level client relationships, and identify and close significant growth opportunities
Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing pods
Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets, complex scopes, and multiple timelines across accounts
Strong leadership and communication skills, including ability to influence senior stakeholders, present strategic recommendations, and lead high‑impact discussions

Elevation strives to provide some of the best agency compensation and benefit packages in the great southwest. Salary range for this job is targeted at $90,000-$120,000+ based on experience, skill set and agency experience. The job is in Gilbert, AZ (just off the Loop 202 expressway) and less than one mile from over 50 restaurants. Employees can start at any time between 7 AM and 9 AM and finish between 4 PM and 6 PM based on client demands and department structure.
