Overview
Director of Business Development – Drives global sales and business development strategy for the Pharmaceuticals division, reporting to the Vice President, CMO Business Development. Responsible for growth of the Contract Manufacturing business by identifying and capitalizing on strategic partnerships, collaborations, and licensing deals within the pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute business strategies to expand the Pharma CMO division through partnerships, collaborations, and licensing deals.

Identify, evaluate, and cultivate new business opportunities across multiple manufacturing sites worldwide to fill available capacity for contract manufacturing.

Drive the Contract Manufacturing Omnichannel marketing plan (digital, print, website, social media, trade shows, and content) in domestic and international markets.

Build the CMO marketing strategy, increase awareness of Fresenius Kabi contract manufacturing capabilities, and move interested customers from RFP to contractual agreement.

Oversee end‑to‑end negotiation and execution of complex commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and risk mitigation.

Create and develop quotations, letters of intent, and other sales documents to support new business opportunities.

Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics to identify opportunities and threats, providing insights to senior leadership.

Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities and competitive advantages.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (R&D, Product Management, Legal, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, EH&S, Procurement, Project Management, Business Strategy) to assess feasibility, drive business objectives, and manage project timelines.

Lead financial and strategic evaluations of potential business opportunities, performing due diligence and risk assessments to inform decisions.

Develop financial models, forecasts, and business cases for potential opportunities.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support business development and facilitate deal‑making.

Provide regular updates and presentations to leadership on progress, opportunities, and risks; prepare proposals for senior management.

Utilize and contribute to marketing campaigns, conferences, and local events to expand market knowledge and network.

Represent Fresenius Kabi at industry events, conferences, and meetings to enhance visibility and build relationships.

Accountable for achieving CMO sales targets and driving growth.

Own the CMO sales forecast and assist in developing long‑term sales plans, updating management on progress.

Oversee creation and implementation of SOPs, processes, and procedures.

Lead the transition from the customer to the appropriate internal owner once a contract decision is made.

Identify and resolve emerging issues that may impact projects, departmental or corporate goals.

Recognize potential threats to business opportunities and elevate issues to senior management.

Propose solutions, resolve conflicts, and recommend improvements to existing processes or systems.

Track KPIs and performance metrics to evaluate the success of initiatives.

Mentor a team of business development professionals to ensure high performance and goal achievement.

Ensure effective and timely communication with stakeholders.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required (preferred in supply chain, business, life science, or related field); MBA or advanced degree preferred.

12+ years of related experience in supply chain, launch management, sales, and/or business development.

5+ years of direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with deep understanding of sterile pharmaceutical markets, trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape.

Excellent negotiation, contract management, and consensus‑building skills.

Strong project management capabilities overseeing complex, cross‑functional initiatives.

Ability to influence without authority and navigate complex matrix environments.

Familiarity with GMP‑regulated manufacturing environments and regulatory frameworks across regions.

Highly driven, strategic thinker with deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with senior executives, partners, and external stakeholders.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; data‑driven decision making.

Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and business analytics.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office, SharePoint, email, and office equipment.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally.

Qualified candidates must be within commutable distance of one of the U.S. production facilities: Melrose Park, IL; Grand Island, NY; or Wilson, NC.

Benefits

Salary Range: $165,000–$205,000.

Eligible for an annual bonus plan with a target of 16% of base salary.

Eligible for a medium‑term incentive plan.
