Fall Intern PRT‑Athletics/Sports Management
Fall 2026 internships begin on or after

August 17, 2026 . The internship may last up to 30 hours per week, up to a maximum of 360 hours.

Responsibilities:

Provide transportation to and from work.

Arrive at the work site at the time designated by the work site supervisor.

Perform tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the work site supervisor efficiently.

Demonstrate honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and willingness to learn.

Conform to the guidelines of the internship work site.

Deliver excellent customer service to players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators.

Assist with organizing, scheduling, and managing athletic leagues, tournaments, and community sports events.

Recruit, lead, and support volunteers and contractual staff, ensuring programs run safely and smoothly.

Monitor games, practices, and recreation sites to ensure safety, fair play, and proper facility use.

Enforce athletic rules and policies across sports such as softball, soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, cheerleading, and more.

Resolve conflicts or concerns among players, coaches, and spectators professionally.

Set up and take down athletic fields, courts, and event spaces—including equipment such as goals, nets, flags, and benches.

Conduct safety and equipment checks; inspect fields and facilities for maintenance needs.

Support event logistics such as participant registration, team organization, and event‑day coordination.

Perform light custodial and field maintenance tasks.

Assist with promotional efforts and community engagement to encourage participation.

Learn balance in recreation operations, customer service, and teamwork in a municipal setting.

Qualifications:

College student in good standing (preferably junior, senior, or graduate student) or recent graduate within the past year.

Customer service experience.

Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

May be required to work some events, programs, and activities throughout the city and department.

Preferred academic work in recreational and/or environmental studies.

Work Conditions:

Worksite: Chesapeake, VA (City‑wide municipal and recreational facilities).

Pay: $17.50 per hour.

Schedule: Flexible, up to 30 hours per week.

Driving requirement: Occasional.
