Knowledge and experience working and testing in lab environments.
Knowledge of RF hardware and familiarity with RF measurement instruments (Analyzer, Signal Generator, Power Meter, Network Analyzer).
Knowledge of LTE and NR layers (L1, PHY, MAC, RRC, etc.) and protocols, including OFDM, modulation, timing/synchronization, and random access.
Knowledge of RAN technologies such as vRAN, MIMO, and timing and synchronization using GPS and PTP.
Knowledge of radio, BBU, DU, and CU configuration and management, including handling of eNB and gNB.
Experience with a broad range of wireless access technologies across key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security.
Knowledge of virtualization and cloud platforms is a plus.
Ability to lead complex projects while working with matrix teams of junior and senior engineers across multiple engineering organizations.
Strong technology expertise with proven leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong technical skills, and a customer-service-oriented mindset.
Operational experience with 5G and 4G-LTE preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
Ability to manage and deliver against multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development and evaluation of Wireless Radio Access Network (RAN) and 5G architecture, infrastructure, and products.
Evaluate and develop software architecture and platforms necessary to demonstrate proofs of concept.
Work with new technology development and validation, including:
Studying new technology trends
Formulating impact statements of such technologies on wireless technology strategy and service offerings
Validating the capabilities of these technologies through lab evaluations and, where applicable, field trials
Develop tools and processes for technology innovation and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
Assess new product requirements, develop technology and architecture solutions, and evaluate performance in support of those requirements.
Support initiatives including improved wireless network security and virtualization of network functions, along with new applications supporting potential new services.
Support new wireless technology development for potential IoT activities and architectures.
Responsible for engineering activities in the lab for validation and testing of new wireless technologies.
Integrate wireless architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links, and protocols into complete network configurations.
Coordinate with vendors and lead the testing of new firmware, software, and hardware supporting wireless solutions.
Construct test plans to validate functional, performance, and business requirements for technologies over existing infrastructure.
Evaluate, select, and deploy new test tools and automation frameworks.
Study future technology developments and formulate associated testing strategies.
Provide timely and accurate information and status updates to functional leaders.
Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to team members in the lab.
Ensure projects are accurately estimated and delivered according to schedule.
Work with vendors and engineering teams to resolve issues and design flaws.
Education:
BSEE or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred.
Related Work Experience (Years):
Software Development and Management: 7+ years
Technology management experience working with top MSOs, telecom providers, satellite operators, or major wireless vendors in the U.S.: 2+ years
