Primary Function
Provide strategy for preventative maintenance for components and systems within sophisticated broadcast and audiovisual (AV) systems as well as the installation of broadcast and AV components in system upgrades in control rooms, auditoriums and performance spaces. Work to execute repairs and replacements and mentor a team of Technicians on how to evaluate, report and conduct standard maintenance and repairs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Establish, implement, schedule, conduct and monitor the preventative maintenance plan, suggesting ideas and providing solutions to consistent problems.
Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of broadcast and AV systems, including cabling & wiring, audio and video distribution and recording systems, cameras, projectors, decks, monitors, audio sound consoles (mixers), microphones, SI equipment, computers, control systems, data/video displays and projection systems, videoconferencing equipment and large campus wide deployed SDVN systems.
Survey rooms regularly and intermittently to ensure systems are functioning properly.
Work closely with Media Systems Technicians to report, track, identify and evaluate necessary equipment repairs.
Work closely with the AV and IT Departments to ensure that all AV-IT-Broadcast systems function at the highest levels of up-time across a large campus.
Troubleshoot and repair hardware, software and network technology systems that provide AV and broadcast services both locally and internationally.
Coordinate and manage the repair of equipment with outside service personnel and authorized manufacturer service centers.
Monitor service level indicators of equipment using both traditional and online tools and provide guidance for those working with the equipment daily.
Evaluate equipment condition, create, and execute lifecycle replacement plan.
Recommend and perform upgrades to infrastructure, including replacement of systems and equipment to meet service level agreements of a 100% uptime operation.
Provide reporting, documentation and SOPs for the maintenance service area.
Monitor inventory of necessary parts and tools, create justifications for orders where needed.
Occasionally perform duties outside of regular business hours, evenings and sometimes weekends as workload demands.
Travel as needed (less than 5%).
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
A strong sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution is critical.
Ability to read, understand and draw technical/schematics and have good, logical system troubleshooting skills.
Ability to understand and explain signal flow diagrams and construction drawings.
Superior basic repair bench knowledge and ability including strong soldering skills.
Able to evaluate equipment and prepare equipment to be sent out for repairs; able to assess urgency of repair need and prioritize to the team.
Audio and video cable fabrication; Cable pulling and rack fabrication.
Proficiency with Crestron control systems, Ross video systems, audio consoles, power amplifiers, digital signal processors, video matrix switchers, video scalars, PC and Mac interfaces and digital video recorders.
Familiarity with Freshdesk and ServiceNow preferred.
Strong record keeping skills including ability to document and track history of repairs, installations, and inventory.
Basic understanding of project and SLA budgeting for maintenance projects and human resources needed to complete the efforts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Must be capable of working at heights and have good balance, may be required to lift heavy equipment up to 60 pounds.
Must be a self-starter and a team player.
Education & Experience
Minimum 10+ years hands-on repair experience for AV, broadcast, IT, or telecommunications.
Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or related field preferred. Technical school training with equivalent experience also considered.
AVIXA CTS certification preferred.
Multilingual preferred.
