This position is based out of Feeding America’s Washington, DC office. Employees must be in the office an average of two days a week and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30‑day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year, which can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.
The Opportunity
The Director of Digital Advocacy implements a wide range of strategic, analytic, and campaign skills that engage grassroots audiences to take action to advance Feeding America’s public policy and legislative objectives and to help catalyze a movement to end hunger. The role develops and implements strategies to build Feeding America’s grassroots advocacy capacity across the network and online to increase impact. The position builds advocacy capacity and engagement among network food bank members and the people we serve, manages legislative advocacy campaigns, and supports growing the number of digital advocates.
Compensation
At Feeding America the compensation policy emphasizes equality and transparency. Salary ranges are defined upfront and seldom subject to negotiation, except for highly experienced new hires. Once hired, employees can progress through salary ranges via merit increases and step promotions.
Salary Range
$116,000 – $121,000 Base, based on experience.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies and plans to engage external grassroots audiences, building a digital advocacy base of engaged advocates.
Oversee the execution of the digital advocacy strategy and provide strategic counsel on digital advocacy programs, including ad campaigns, online‑to‑offline advocacy, retention, and expansion.
Oversee the development and execution of Feeding America’s member advocacy capacity strategy, deliver advocacy trainings, and provide technical assistance to build members’ advocacy skills.
Manage day‑to‑day operations of the growing digital advocacy program, including advocacy email, SMS, social media, and other multi‑channel needs. Coordinate with vendors, partners, and internal digital marketing teams.
Collect and share advocacy best practices across the network to improve and advance strategies and tactics.
Provide leadership support, including strategic counsel to the VP of Advocacy & Neighbor Engagement, manage external consultants, and manage budget for advocacy efforts while developing change‑management systems.
Represent Feeding America at advocacy events, forums, speaking engagements, conferences, coalition meetings, and similar events.
Collaborate with government relations, marketing, and communications to shape messaging and digital advocacy strategies.
Oversee and collaborate on ongoing messaging and grantmaking around SNAP and other projects.
Required Experience and Qualifications
8+ years’ experience in digital advocacy, digital grassroots mobilization, digital external affairs, or digital issue campaigns.
Experience with CRMs (EveryAction, Salesforce, Quorum) and using social media platforms for advocacy engagement.
Preferred bilingual in Spanish.
