How an IT Technical Writer Will Make an Impact:
Collaborates closely with engineers, analysts, and military personnel to capture and translate complex technical processes into clear, mission-ready documentation.
Partners with cross-functional teams to identify gaps in existing documentation and resolve communication challenges that impact operational efficiency.
Operates within a dynamic, fast-paced environment where adaptability and precision are key—working alongside both civilian and military stakeholders to ensure alignment with Army standards.
Develops and maintains user manuals, system guides, and SOPs that directly support mission-critical systems and enhance readiness across the unit.
Leverages expertise in tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and VISIO, along with familiarity in DoD documentation standards, to produce high-quality deliverables that meet compliance and security requirements.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Required Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in technical writing, preferably within IT, cybersecurity, or defense-related environments.
Required Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Visio, and Adobe Acrobat for document creation, editing, and diagramming
Experience with SharePoint and other content management systems
Familiarity with DoD and Army documentation standards, including MIL-STD and style guides
Ability to interpret and translate complex technical information into clear, concise documentation
Working knowledge of IT systems, cybersecurity principles, and network infrastructure terminology
Strong understanding of version control and document lifecycle management
Excellent grammar, formatting, and editing skills with attention to detail
Security Clearance Level:
Top Secret/SCI (must be eligible to obtain or maintain)
Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify documentation gaps and propose effective solutions
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
Familiarity with military terminology and protocols, and ability to adapt writing style to meet DoD standards
Preferred Skills:
Experience supporting U.S. Army or other DoD programs
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and experience documenting in Agile environments
