Description
A research opportunity is available with the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) of the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) in Atlanta, Georgia. The candidate will engage in a mentored research experience focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning methods for process automation within SharePoint and Microsoft enterprise platforms.
Project Focus
Integrating large language models into SharePoint workflows, addressing HR, Budget, and Travel processes.
Developing intelligent document processing and automated workflow designs.
Evaluating AI/ML data interpretation methods and presenting results through dashboards.
Testing and validating AI‑generated outputs for accuracy and data integrity.
Learning Objectives
Gain hands‑on experience with large language models, prompt engineering, and AI/ML for workflow automation.
Analyze operational data to create dashboards and metrics that illustrate trends and resource usage.
Translate standard operating procedures into automated workflows and communicate findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
Develop user guidance and documentation for AI‑enabled systems.

ORISE Program Information
Participants will not be CDC employees and receive no employment‑related benefits. Health insurance must be provided through ORISE. Participants must comply with Environmental, Safety and Health requirements, including COVID‑19 protocols.
Eligibility Requirements
U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Master’s degree earned within the last 60 months.
Disciplines: Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Computer Systems Analysis, Graphics & Visualization, Human‑Computer Interaction.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline earned within the last five years.
Preferred Skills
Experience with low‑code
o‑code automation platforms (Microsoft Power Automate, SharePoint) and AI integration.
API development and Microsoft ecosystem proficiency.
Data visualization with tools such as Power BI.
Business systems analysis of SOPs and translation into workflows.
Testing and validation of AI outputs.
Technical communication and training for non‑technical audiences.
