Columbia Technology Partners is seeking a Software Engineer 3 to lead front‑end development efforts for complex mission software systems. This role will support the full software development lifecycle in an agile environment, focusing on building scalable, accessible, and production‑ready user interfaces while providing technical leadership to a team of UI/front‑end developers.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of UI/front‑end developers, providing technical guidance, code review, development standards, and best practices.

Architect, design, and implement scalable, maintainable front‑end solutions using modern frameworks and component‑based development approaches.

Translate prototypes, wireframes, and design specifications into responsive, accessible, and production‑ready user interfaces.

Analyze user requirements to derive software design, performance, accessibility, and implementation requirements.

Collaborate with backend engineers to design and integrate RESTful or GraphQL APIs, ensuring efficient data flow between front‑end and back‑end systems.

Contribute to full‑stack development efforts as needed, including backend services, database interactions, API integration, and deployment support.

Debug existing software, resolve defects, address performance bottlenecks, and improve overall application quality and maintainability.

Partner with UX/UI designers, system engineers, and product stakeholders to preserve design intent while meeting technical and mission requirements.

Establish and enforce front‑end coding standards, documentation practices, component reuse strategies, and software development process improvements.

Develop, modify, integrate, and test software components to meet design, performance, interface, and functional requirements.

Participate in sprint planning, technical estimation, architectural decision‑making, and agile software development activities.

Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG, throughout design and development.

Recommend new technologies, tools, and processes to improve complex software development efforts.

Oversee quality control of developed and modified software while coordinating programming and testing responsibilities across the team.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 12+ years of software engineering experience; four additional years of relevant software engineering experience may be substituted for a degree.

Proven experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to software development or UI/front‑end development teams.

Strong proficiency with modern front‑end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue, along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, and component‑based architecture.

Experience developing, debugging, integrating, testing, and documenting software in complex environments while collaborating with users, system engineers, and technical stakeholders.

Desired Skills

Full‑stack development experience, including backend development with technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, databases, or deployment pipelines.

Experience working closely with UX/UI teams to implement accessible, user‑centered interfaces that align with design specifications and usability goals.

Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud, and modern agile development practices.

Experience with tiered architectural systems, Linux/Ubuntu environments, performance optimization, cross‑browser compatibility, and technical debt reduction.
