Job Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology seeks an entry-intermediate research professional to take photos at several clinic locations in Denver and Aurora. This position will work on patient recruitment and consents for research imaging, operate specialized ophthalmic equipment, provide the research consent form, educate patients regarding the study, answer patient questions, and capture retina pictures. The Ophthalmology Department offers imaging services OCT and non-mydriatic fundus photography services.

Responsibilities
Entry

Under direct supervision of an eye care provider, assists with patient care and patient flow.

Performs diagnostic imaging and testing including OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing. Administers intravenous agents in preparation for fluorescein angiography.

Provides documentation, educates patients, creates appointments and enters charges.

Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and ability to work with minimal supervision. Must work in a fast‑paced environment and take appropriate action.

Intermediate

Assists with and oversees the day‑to‑day operations of clinical trials and studies.

Obtains study subject's medical history and current medication information, reviews research protocol inclusion/exclusion criteria, and confirms eligibility of subject to participate in clinical trial.

Performs or ensures the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required.

Performs documentation and data entry in REDCap database.

Performs ophthalmic photography for enrolled participants in Oculomics study.

Work Location
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Entry

Bachelor's degree in any field

A combination of education and related technical, military, or paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Intermediate

Bachelor's degree in any field

A combination of education and related technical, military, or paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

One year clinical research or related experience

Required licensure/certification: Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) within 30 days of hire or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification; completion of the Ophthalmic Assistant Home Study Course within 1 year of hire; Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider.

Preferred Qualifications

Entry

Bachelor's degree in science or health‑related field

3+ months of healthcare experience

Clinical research or related experience

Experience with electronic data capture systems such as Epic or EHR and data management systems such as REDCap

Bilingual, Spanish‑speaking

MS Office: Outlook, Power Point, Word

Intermediate

Bachelor's degree in science or health‑related field

Two years of clinical research or related experience

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

Outstanding customer service skills

Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology

Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Conditions of Employment

Must be able to work in‑person.

Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

Must engage with OP clinic staff and providers.

Must engage with potential participants and patients, providing a brief review of Oculomics project and enrolling them into the project.

Must play an active role doing rounds in waiting rooms and clinical rooms as needed.

Must report the number of interactions and enrollment on a daily basis.

Must interact and communicate with back‑end team via email, Teams, or phone calls.

Must take over data entry and back‑end responsibilities as needed.

Must engage in communication with IT support from supplier companies.

Must engage with University IT support.
