Overview
Job Title: Contractor Engineering Content Developer - PE Mechanical HVAC. Kaplan seeks remote Subject Matter Experts with a PE in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC focus) to update material for the Principles of Practice of Engineering (PE) examination, Mechanical HVAC discipline. The role involves revising the review manual, practice problem books, practice exams, and quiz bank to align with PE exam specifications effective October 2025. This is a remote contract (1099) opportunity with flexible hours (up to 20 per week).
Responsibilities
Review and update quiz questions and practice exam questions in the style of NCEES examinations to reflect upcoming exam changes.
Revise and edit content within the mechanical/HVAC engineering discipline for the PE exam, ensuring accuracy and alignment with new specifications.
Collaborate with the team to ensure materials are up-to-date and comprehensive for October 2025 exam changes.
Potentially contribute to suggested study plans and provide feedback on customer expectations for study and preparation related to the Mechanical HVAC exam.
Perform quality assurance and technical reviews of updated content.
Skill Requirements
Excellent command of English – verbal and written.
Active PE Certification issued by NCEES in Mechanical Engineering with a focus or experience in HVAC.
Strong familiarity with the content covered in the PE Mechanical HVAC exam.
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management, especially regarding upcoming content update deadlines.
Prompt and responsive communication, primarily by email. Occasional video chat meetings during business hours may be required.
Highly motivated with initiative to identify areas for content updates.
Receptive to feedback, able to meet deadlines, and take accountability for deliverables.
Preferred Skills
Experience developing or reviewing educational content, especially for engineering exams in the HVAC discipline.
Experience with curriculum development or technical writing related to mechanical engineering or HVAC topics.
Familiarity with upcoming changes to the PE Mechanical HVAC exam specifications.
Experience tutoring/mentoring/educating engineering students or colleagues in mechanical engineering or HVAC.
Experience creating multiple-choice questions, study materials, PowerPoint presentations, or similar content in the engineering field.
Hours & Employment
This is a contract (1099) position. Projects will be assigned via separate contracts with discrete schedules and deliverables related to updating our PE Mechanical HVAC exam preparation materials. There is no set working schedule or hours other than project deadlines as assigned.
Equipment
Contractors must supply their own equipment and have installed: Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader or Professional, MathType.
Pay
Pay is per project based on contractor availability and experience, typically equivalent to $25-$50 per hour.
