Job Overview
Performs highly complex multimedia operation and production work. Collaborates with DPS personnel to capture high-quality video footage for promoting the Texas Department of Public Safety. Participates in creating storylines, selecting locations, editing, and approving content. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Produces, directs, and edits video projects, including planning, capturing footage, designing graphics and interactive media materials.

Coordinates the review and approval process for video projects across numerous divisions to ensure alignment with agency messaging objectives.

Participates in the creative process on public safety and social media campaigns including creating storylines and selecting locations.

Attends a variety of official DPS events to capture video content for promotional, archival, and programmatic purposes.

Travels with DPS leadership to capture video and photographic content.

Collaborates with regional media teams to develop and produce video projects for statewide release.

Provides training and guidance to regional media teams on best practices, equipment usage, and techniques.

May assist with writing for video pieces.

Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited two- or four-year college or university with a major in communications or video production or a related field, including coursework in computer graphics, communications, film, fine art, or a related discipline.

Experience:

Minimum of five years of video editing experience in a professional setting, working on tight deadlines and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in news media or law enforcement is a plus.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Valid driver’s license if driving is required.

Regulatory Knowledge:

Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate, DPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Multimedia Knowledge:

Proficiency in creating graphics, special effects, and editing multimedia content (photos, audio, video). Demonstrable knowledge of graphic design principles, video photographic techniques, and production methods and procedures.

Technology:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with CAPPS, SharePoint, and other relevant systems, with the ability to learn new software.

Schedule and/or Travel:

Availability for after-hours, weekend, and emergency work. Travel statewide may be required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Work environment: Office/Indoors and/or outdoors and/or vehicle operations.

Ambulatory skills: stand, walk, sit, kneel, crouch.

Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity.

Visual acuity and hearing.

Transfer weights up to 30 pounds.

Driving requirements: occasional (up to 20%).
