Strategic Communications & Engagement Intern – City Solutions (Fall 2026) – New York
This internship offers opportunities for students interested in communications, public affairs, urban studies, or public policy to work at the intersection of infrastructure, storytelling, and community engagement. The Strategic Communications & Engagement (SC&E) practice shapes how transportation and infrastructure projects are communicated to clients, stakeholders, and communities.
As an intern, you will support efforts to translate technical work such as transportation planning, infrastructure design, and resilience projects into clear narratives, visuals, and engagement strategies, collaborating with planners, engineers, designers, and communications professionals to support public projects.
Responsibilities

Conduct research on transportation, infrastructure, and urban policy topics to support project communications and outreach efforts
Develop presentations, graphics, and written materials for internal materials, reports, and client deliverables
Help craft narratives that explain complex infrastructure projects to public audiences
Maintain SharePoint sites that support City Solutions knowledge-sharing and help organize information across project teams for consistent messaging
Support community engagement efforts, including preparation for public meetings and stakeholder outreach
Develop internal communications materials and draft thought leadership content to explain SC&E work to clients and the public
Contribute to SC&E proposals by conducting research and organizing materials highlighting TYLin’s SC&E expertise and project experience
Collaborate with SC&E’s graphic design team to support infographics, social media content, and other storytelling tools
Qualifications

Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly
Interest in cities, transportation, infrastructure, sustainability, or public policy
Curiosity about how large public projects are communicated to clients and communities
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while also working independently
Commitment to integrity and ethical, fair, and responsible behavior
Commitment to innovation and continuous learning with a passion for acquiring new skills
Your Education and Experience

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator) or similar design tools is a plus
Experience with knowledge management platforms, including SharePoint, is a plus
Interest in infrastructure, transportation, or urban issues is strongly preferred

TYLin is committed to pay equity. This position offers an hourly compensation range of $20 to $30 per hour. Compensation will be based on individual skills, experience, education, and qualifications.
