Public Engagement Specialist

This position provides support to the Director of Public Liaison in researching and developing strategies to promote greater visibility and enhance the Office of Public Liaison in DOT mission-driven activities.
Responsibilities

Assume a supportive role in researching and developing strategies to promote visibility and enhance marketing for the Office of Public Liaison.
Qualifications

Education: Must meet the Education Requirement for the series and provide transcripts for verification.
Experience and Education requirements vary by GS level:
GS-11: One year experience equal to GS-09 that includes written and oral communication for reports and stakeholder collaboration; or three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.; or a combination of higher level graduate education and experience.
GS-12: One year experience equal to GS-11 that includes strategic planning, recommendations to enhance program effectiveness, and research methodologies or data analysis.
GS-13: One year experience equal to GS-12 that includes planning and making recommendations for a public liaison program, data needs analysis, and using oral and written communication to foster public acceptance of programs, policies, and initiatives.
Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other community or professional organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Written and Oral Communication: writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed.
Problem Solving: identifies problems; determines the accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.
Students enrolled in a qualifying degree program can apply if the anticipated graduation date is within six months of the closing date. Graduation transcripts must be received before the start date.
