Public Relations Specialist I – Hinds County, Mississippi
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is responsible for conserving and enhancing the state's wildlife, fisheries, and parks, providing quality outdoor recreation, and engaging the public in natural resource conservation. The agency is committed to preserving and protecting the state's natural resources for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

The marketing department promotes and enhances the agency's brand and services while communicating the importance of conservation and protecting the state's natural resources. This involves conducting market research, developing marketing strategies and campaigns, creating promotional materials, managing social media and digital marketing efforts, coordinating public relations efforts, and analyzing marketing metrics to determine the effectiveness of marketing efforts.

About the Position
The marketing specialist is an enthusiastic member of the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks marketing department and will be an important resource to help achieve our goals. The marketing specialist will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and editing content for MDWFP which will be published in all agency media, marketing, and public relations assets. The marketing specialist will also be responsible for keeping content on brand while researching key SEO terms and implementing them to gain maximum exposure.

Moreover, as a marketing team member, you will collaborate with our marketing and communications team in all stages of marketing campaigns and general outreach. Candidates will also be required to brainstorm and suggest newer ways and platforms to increase customer segments and increase the target market.

Some responsibilities include:

Coordinating email marketing initiatives

Content marketing deliverables

Social media initiatives

Minor research and trends

Support duties for database management, reporting and analytics

Tradeshow support

Website content maintenance

The marketing specialist must have a strong will to learn, attention to detail, be self‑motivated, and a team player. They will be capable of handling multiple tasks with competing priorities, think critically, and exercise independent judgment and discretion. They will also be technology‑savvy, results‑oriented, solution‑focused, with a problem‑solving attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Experience in social media tools.

Writing and editing copy.

Familiarity with marketing analysis tools.
