Role
New Media is a16z’s thought‑leadership engine. Events are a core part of how New Media shows up in the world, deepening relationships, surfacing ideas, and amplifying the firm’s brand. The Events Partner is a senior operator responsible for designing and executing a portfolio of high‑impact experiences – from intimate community dinners to multi‑day summits and leadership retreats.
Location
The preferred location for this role is the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Candidates in New York City, NY, will also be considered. The role requires in‑office presence from time to time.

- Design and lead a suite of high‑impact experiences, bringing creative vision and a constant push to elevate the guest experience.
- Partner directly with senior executives, GPs, and prominent external figures to shape events that reflect the firm’s brand and deepen key relationships.
- Own operational logistics including venue sourcing, vendor negotiation, contract management, and on‑site production for both in‑person and virtual formats.
- Build and manage event communications campaigns; own the outreach calendar, track registrations and engagement, and adjust strategy based on data.
- Produce post‑event reporting, including budget reconciliation, attendee feedback and ROI analysis, translating lessons learned into improved processes and future planning.
- Partner with editorial, communications, and design teams to develop branded collateral and ensure events are integrated into broader marketing efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in event management, with a proven track record across complex, high‑visibility events, consistently raising the bar on guest experience.
- Poise, influence, and discretion when working directly with senior executives, investment partners, and prominent external figures.
- Strong operational instincts – ability to manage vendors, contracts, and on‑site logistics while staying calm under pressure.
- Proficiency with CRM and event tools (Salesforce, Marketo, or equivalents); comfortable with data, reporting, and ROI analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; sharp eye for detail and a high bar for quality.
- Experience with community building and network engagement.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by it – able to translate loosely defined goals into creative, executable plans, building the playbook when it does not exist.
- Low ego, high empathy, and a genuinely collaborative approach across functions and levels.
- Ability to travel up to 30‑40% of the time.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range is $221,000 – $258,000, varying by experience, skills, and scope. This role is eligible for the a16z carry program, discretionary bonus programs, and benefit plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k), vacation, and sick leave.
