AETHER is looking for an experienced, multidisciplinary Content Director / Senior Video Producer to lead the development and production of original video content for the brand — with frequent international travel to shoot wherever the story takes us, from city streets to remote mountain terrain.
This role owns projects start to finish: creative development, pre‑production, field production, directing, cinematography, interviewing, editing, and post‑production. We need a strong creative storyteller who is also a highly capable, hands‑on filmmaker — someone who can operate independently, move fluidly across departments, and adapt on the fly in remote or unpredictable production environments.
You’ll need to understand AETHER’s identity at a gut level and translate it into thoughtful, visually compelling stories — without ever sounding like an ad. The work should feel authentic, understated, intelligent, and grounded in real people, real places, and real experiences.
This is a hands‑on creative role, not a desk job. One day you’re developing a campaign concept, the next you’re interviewing a documentary subject, running a camera in rough conditions on the other side of the world, cutting a short film, or handling the practical details that get a finished project across the line.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Development and Storytelling
- Develop original concepts for brand films, documentary profiles, campaign videos, product stories, social content, and other editorial projects
- Research and identify compelling subjects, locations, themes, and story opportunities
- Develop treatments, creative briefs, interview questions, scripts, voice‑over narration, story outlines, and edit structures
- Identify the emotional and narrative core of a project while maintaining an authentic, understated tone
- Partner with AETHER leadership and the creative team to keep content aligned with brand identity and business objectives
- Maintain a consistent visual and editorial voice across every video project
- Build production plans, schedules, shot lists, interview plans, and equipment lists
- Coordinate with producers, photographers, designers, marketing staff, talent, athletes, guides, vendors, and outside production partners
- Scout and assess locations — travel logistics, weather, access, available light, power, and environmental conditions
- Determine the right camera, lens, lighting, stabilization, audio, and drone setup for each production
- Anticipate technical and logistical challenges and solve for them before production begins
- Help set realistic scope, schedules, deliverables, and post‑production timelines
Production
- Direct and execute video productions ranging from controlled commercial shoots to documentary projects in remote environments
- Serve as cinematographer and camera operator when required
- Conduct thoughtful interviews that help subjects communicate naturally on camera
- Capture documentary moments as they unfold while staying focused on the larger story
- Operate professional cinema and mirrorless camera systems, lenses, lighting, stabilization, drones, and audio equipment
- Make independent creative and technical calls in fast‑moving or unpredictable conditions
- Adapt plans on the fly in response to weather, access, equipment issues, or new story opportunities
- Thrive during travel‑intensive productions in remote, physically demanding, or logistically challenging environments
- Keep media management and equipment handling organized throughout production
- Edit short‑form and long‑form video projects from first assembly through final delivery
- Review large volumes of footage to identify strong performances, story moments, and narrative gold
- Build documentary stories out of unscripted footage rather than relying solely on a predetermined script
- Construct clear narrative structures using interviews, voice‑over, observational footage, archival material, music, and sound design
- Refine pacing, tone, and emotional progression through multiple rounds of editorial review
- Write and revise voice‑over narration when a project needs added context or structure
- Oversee color correction, sound mixing, graphics, music selection, captioning, versioning, and final delivery
- Prepare deliverables across aspect ratios for web, social, retail, events, and paid media
- Keep project files, footage, audio, and archival media organized and accessible to the wider creative team
Brand and Campaign Content
- Create video content that communicates AETHER’s identity through authentic experiences, environments, products, and people
- Collaborate with creative, design, marketing, e‑commerce, retail, and social teams on seasonal campaigns and company initiatives
- Find meaningful editorial stories around travel, design, exploration, craftsmanship, performance, and the people connected to the brand
- Balance long‑form storytelling with concise, platform‑specific campaign and social content
- Adapt larger productions into supporting edits, trailers, social cutdowns, vertical content, and promotional assets
- Integrate product and brand messaging naturally, without overwhelming the story
Project Management and Collaboration
- Manage multiple projects at once, across every stage of development, production, and post‑production
- Set priorities and communicate clearly on status, schedules, deliverables, and delays
- Coordinate with internal creative teams and external production partners
- Give clear creative direction to editors, cinematographers, photographers, designers, animators, composers, colorists, and sound mixers
- Review work and provide specific, constructive feedback
- Keep project documentation, production materials, and handoff notes organized
- Support efficient workflows across production, post‑production, marketing, and creative
- Manage projects independently, while knowing when to pull in additional resources or input
Qualifications
- Significant professional experience in video production, filmmaking, branded content, documentary production, or a related field
- A strong portfolio spanning visual storytelling, documentary work, commercial content, interviews, cinematography, and editing
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable professional editing software
- Strong working knowledge of professional camera systems, lenses, lighting, audio recording, stabilization, media management, and post‑production workflows
- Proven ability to take projects from initial concept through final delivery
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to find compelling stories inside large amounts of unscripted footage
- Experience interviewing both experienced talent and people unaccustomed to being on camera
- Strong writing skills — treatments, interview questions, scripts, voice‑over narration, titles, and supporting copy
- Ability to communicate creative ideas clearly to creative and non‑creative stakeholders alike
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and revisions at once
- Comfortable working independently and owning projects with limited supervision
- Willing and able to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally
- Comfortable working outdoors and in remote, physically demanding, or unpredictable environments
- Able to stay calm, resourceful, and productive when production plans change unexpectedly
Preferred Experience
- Producing documentary or editorial films for an outdoor, apparel, travel, automotive, design, or lifestyle brand
- Directing small production crews and collaborating with photographers, athletes, guides, founders, designers, and creative leadership
- Professional drone operation and aerial cinematography workflows
- Filming motorcycles, vehicles, outdoor activities, travel, and adventure‑based productions
- Developing long‑form films and adapting them into shorter campaign and social deliverables
- Working knowledge of color workflows, sound design, motion graphics, music licensing, captioning, and delivery specs
- Operating in international and remote production environments
- Technical troubleshooting across cameras, drones, stabilization systems, audio equipment, and field workflows
Personal Attributes
- Genuinely curious about people, places, design, travel, and the experiences surrounding the AETHER brand
- A strong visual storyteller with an understated editorial sensibility
- Self‑directed, and comfortable turning an open‑ended idea into a finished project
- Resourceful and technically capable
- Collaborative, without needing extensive oversight
- Comfortable receiving feedback and defending creative decisions thoughtfully
- Organized, dependable, and detail‑oriented
- Calm and adaptable under pressure or changing conditions
- Ready to participate directly in every stage of production, not just manage it
- Able to recognize when a real moment beats a polished but artificial one
Success in This Role
Success means consistently delivering distinctive, high‑quality content that reflects AETHER’s identity; running productions efficiently from concept through completion; holding a high creative and technical bar; collaborating effectively across the company; and building a clear, organized, sustainable video‑production workflow.
