The New York State Department of Labor’s Office of Communications is seeking a Public Information Specialist 2 (Digital Content) to join its Marketing team. The role requires strong project management and coordination skills, excellent writing and proof‑reading abilities, and proven experience in managing news media relations and digital content.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Office of Communications leadership to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion.

Oversee the entire lifecycle of communication projects, ensuring timely and satisfactory delivery.

Partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Develop and manage project schedules and timelines, identifying and tracking all key milestones.

Draft content for projects, including campaign messaging guides, web content, promotional ad copy, and video scripts.

Facilitate and manage the final production process, including scheduling, coordinating client approvals, and proof‑reading the final product.

Qualifications

Seven years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.

Associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar field (substitutes for experience as follows: associate’s for two years, bachelor’s for four years, master’s for five years).

OR one year of experience as a Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Two years of experience helping plan and manage the implementation of assigned communications projects.

NYS government experience a plus.

Excellent creative and institutional writing skills.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a busy workload to meet tight deadlines.

Proven attention to detail while retaining the ability to see the bigger picture.

Exceptional customer service skills.

Proven work experience developing and delivering informative, well‑written messaging.

Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Experience using data and metrics to measure the success of marketing campaigns.

Additional Considerations

Position may require occasional altered work schedule or out‑of‑station assignments, including evenings.

Telecommuting can be discussed during the interview.

Employment is contingent upon maintenance of a valid work authorization and necessary documentation to work legally in the United States.
