Role Description The Videographer/Editor is a full-time, on-site role based in Lansing, MI. This position is responsible for shooting high-quality video for newscasts, features, and special projects, including field and studio production. Daily tasks include operating cameras and related equipment, setting up basic lighting, and capturing compelling visuals and sound that support newsroom storytelling. The role also involves editing video for broadcast and digital platforms, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and delivered on deadline. The Videographer/Editor collaborates closely with reporters, producers, and news managers, follows newsroom editorial direction, and upholds station standards for journalistic integrity and visual style.
Qualifications Strong video production skills, including planning, shooting, and post-production for news and feature content.
Proficiency in camera operation, including professional broadcast cameras and associated gear.
Experience with lighting setups for field and studio environments to achieve clear, visually appealing images.
Ability to shoot video in fast-paced, breaking-news situations while maintaining steady, well-composed shots.
Knowledge of non-linear editing systems (e.g., Edius) and basic audio editing.
Understanding of news workflows, deadlines, and ethical standards in broadcast journalism.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as news coverage requires.
Effective communication skills, reliability, and the ability to collaborate within a newsroom team.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to move and lift equipment as needed.
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in video production, broadcasting, communications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience, preferred.
