Brief Position Overview
Turtle Island Tales is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to provide program coordination and administrative support to the research team and students dedicated to supporting well‑being for Native American families and communities.
General Statement
Turtle Island Tales functions within the Center for American Indian and Rural Health Equity (CAIRHE). CAIRHE is an official state of Montana research center designated by the Montana University System Board of Regents. CAIRHE’s mission is to reduce significant health disparities in Native and rural communities through community‑based participatory research (CBPR) that is considerate of and consistent with their cultural beliefs. CAIRHE serves the people of Montana as a robust, interdisciplinary research center with strong engagement in communities across the state. In collaboration with partners across multiple states, Turtle Island Tales is an evidence‑based obesity‑prevention intervention that promotes wellbeing for Native American families with young children.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Coordination:
Manage student research assistants
Provide training
Schedule activities
Plan, coordinate, and oversee tasks
Pack and ship kits
Maintain shipping calendar for each community
Physically ship kits to partner communities
Manage physical storage
Track inventory on cloud management system
Assist with cost calculations
Align with file management system
Financial and/or Fiscal Management:
Order program supplies
Use ChromeRiver/SmartBuy
Complete Chrome River reports
Reconcile monthly budgets for HC2/Turtle Island Tales indexes
Maintain notes on fiscal tasks, timelines, and protocols
Lead monthly budget updates during internal meetings when applicable
Communications:
Attend staff meetings, partner community meetings, and collaborations; take real‑time notes in the cloud file management system
Assist with creating content for and managing social media and websites for programs, adhering to web accessibility requirements and best practices
Represent the program professionally in phone, in‑person, and virtual meetings
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Progressive program coordination experience with emphasis on coordinating services and activities, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Knowledge of or experience with purchasing, inventory management, costing, and budgeting principles
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, professional attitude
Proficiency in word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), and web‑based communications and social media
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Experience coordinating services and providing administrative support for an education/health related organization
Interest in or experience working with Native American communities

Position Special Requirements / Additional Information
Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. If a successful candidate possesses a valid out‑of‑state driver’s license, they must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
Physical Demands
Transporting items may be required when receiving and managing Turtle Island Tales program inventory.

Salary and Benefits
Salary ranges from $18.36 to $22.50, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications. Benefits eligible.
